Golf Fitness - Core Training: The Secret Of How It Will Improve Your Game

Golf Fitness - Core Training: The Secret Of How It Will Improve Your Game

When you take up your Golf stance and address the ball, do you need good posture? As you address the ball and complete your swing do you need good balance?

If you answered yes to either or both of those questions you need to understand what 'core training' is and why it is so important to you as a Golfer. This raises the question what is this core that needs training?

To the left there is a picture of what is described as the 'core' of the human body. It covers the mid and lower back as well as the front from chest to hips.

OK so why does it need training?

All these muscles help to control the movement of the spine and the trunk of the body in general.

As Golfers we all twist during the swing it is therefore important to have control over this twist and control over our balance through the swing.
A strong 'core' provides a better degree of both of these. Another benefit is that it reduces stress and injury to this part of the body and the spine as well. As the swing incorporates twisting a golf fitness program that includes strengthening your core is essential to raise the level at which you play.

There are other factors that affect balance as well. These are the 'inner ear' and the nervous system that tells the brain about body position and posture. All these areas work together to tell the brain how best to move the body to give maximum performance and minimum injury. Only one of these areas can we directly affect. That is our 'core'.

By training this area of your body, with a properly designed Golf fitness program, not only do you get a flatter tum, you get better posture, less injury and more yards on your drives.

More yards!

Yes, the improvement of your posture and muscle strength leads to better co-ordination and hence a better more powerful swing. A well devised Golf fitness plan brings all these benefits to the Golfer at all levels of the game.

Training these muscles is not hard but it is important to remember to train all the muscles by using correct exercises, with professional help, and to build up the intensity of them. It is also important to keep your body in good posture. This means keeping your back straight when standing and sitting.

These coupled with your exercises will result in a stronger and leaner core muscle structure allowing your spine to move in a more natural way.

By building a Golf fitness and exercise plan into your game you will see improvements. Do not expect them to be overnight as with anything they take time and practice as well as patience.

What we have seen so far is what the core of your body is and why it is important not just to a better game of Golf, enabled through a Golf fitness training system but to your health in general.

By incorporating exercises that will develop your core muscles and improve your posture into your Golf fitness training you will develop a better, more powerful Golf swing and drop your handicap. A result that all of us want in our game.
